Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment

We offer Occupational Therapy (OT) Driving Assessment services to all regions of Metro Sydney.

We have experience working with individuals, rehabilitation and insurance providers and are also a registered NDIS service provider.

Driving is an integral part of our lives, providing control and independence. Driving is a complex and highly demanding task that requires good physical capacity, vision and strong cognitive skills.

Our Sydney OT Driving Assessment service evaluates if clients’ are medically fit to drive. This service is conducted by qualified Occupational Therapists who provide recommendations and referral pathways to ensure safety on the roads. The OT Driver Assessment is the gold standard in assessing a person’s ability to drive.

Transport NSW may require an Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment be conducted for clients presenting with certain medical conditions. Your doctor will advise if an OT Driving Assessment is necessary.

The OT Driving Assessment requires completion of two components:

 Off-Road

Assessment

This component looks at your medical background, driving history, vision, physical ability, decision-making and judgement skills relevant to driving and road law knowledge. An off-road assessment takes approximately 2 hours.

On-Road

Assessment

The On-Road component is a practical test that assesses your fitness to drive on Sydney’s road. It is completed with a qualified driving instructor and the Occupational Therapist in an instructor's dual controlled car. This test can take 1 to 2 hours, depending on your needs.
